Actual vs. estimated profit

Compare one real batch without changing the estimate or committing to tracking every print.

On this page

A comparison when you need it

Actual vs. estimated is optional and available on Pro and Studio. In the calculator, expand Compare a print run for a quick check without saving. To keep a record, open a saved calculation in History and use the same comparison there.

A saved run is one completed batch compared with that calculation, not a replacement for its recipe. Save multiple runs when results differ. The original estimate stays unchanged.

Enter this batch’s totals

Fields begin with estimated values as a convenience. Replace them with actual revenue, material, components, machine allowance, energy, labor, packaging, overhead, shipping and selling fees. Revenue includes shipping collected but excludes sales tax.

Include all failed attempts in material, hands-on labor and occupied printer-hours. The comparison does not apply an additional failure probability or reserve. Machine allowance can remain an allocation rather than a cash purchase; the resulting profit is based on the costs you include.

Finished units can be zero for a failed batch. Margin is unavailable with no revenue, and profit per printer-hour is unavailable with zero hours. The original estimate remains the baseline for the planned batch even when fewer units finish.

Choose whether to save

For a quick check, leave the comparison without saving. To keep it, enter a run name and date, add any notes, and choose Save this run. Each saved run has its own comparison.

Remove run excludes it from your visible results; it is archived rather than immediately erased. If you entered the wrong totals, remove the run and save a corrected one. There is no requirement to track every print.

Read the dashboard honestly

Profitability insights keeps recorded results separate from estimated pricing scenarios and product rankings. Recorded totals combine only saved runs, grouped by currency. No exchange rates are applied.

Results are self-reported, not verified sales, bank transactions or inventory movements. Dashboard totals cover up to the latest 1,000 records; do not use them as a complete accounting ledger.
