Material, printer & component profiles

Set up reusable costs before your next estimate.

On this page

Start with your real costs

Saved cost profiles are available on Maker, Pro and Studio. Open Profiles inside the workspace you want to use. Profiles belong to that workspace; switching teams or workspaces changes the library you see.

Start with one material and one printer you actually use. A specific name such as PLA — matte purple or Workshop P1S makes later selections easier than a generic name.

Save a material or component

Material profiles store a name and cost per kilogram. For a 750 g spool costing 18 in your workspace currency, the equivalent cost per kilogram is 24. Include the filament consumed by supports and waste when you calculate a job.

Component profiles store a cost per component, such as a keyring, magnet or measured glue portion. A pack of 100 keyrings costing 8 has a unit cost of 0.08. Use a consistent unit so a quantity of 10 means ten of those components.

Build a printer profile

Printer profiles include purchase price, residual value, service life in hours, maintenance cost per hour, average power in watts and electricity cost per kWh. Use your own assumptions rather than treating the example values as measurements.

Purchase price and service life support depreciation estimates; maintenance is a separate hourly allowance. Average power describes consumption during printing, rather than the maximum rating on the power supply.

Review before reusing

Select the relevant profiles when preparing an estimate and review the loaded values. Update your library when material prices or operating assumptions change.

Saved calculations preserve the inputs used at the time. Updating a profile does not rewrite those historical estimates. See Saved products & history for the difference between a reusable recipe and a saved result.
